Natty breaks a leg.

Literally. Natty got a broken leg for Christmas and this was NOT on her list. Having a four year old in a full leg cast and a fair amount of pain has been interesting. It’s clearly not a ton of fun but we’re hanging in there. She and I have spent some of the most beautiful time together, it’s pretty amazing how the maternal instinct reacts when your child is in pain. I’ve actually sat down on the sofa with her DURING THE DAYTIME (Me sitting down during the day is more rare than that blue moon thing, too much to do.) to read books and watch tv and movies. She’s actually gotten hooked on Downton Abbey, if you watch it, you know how awesome it is that my four year old begs me to sit on the sofa and watch “Downton” with her. This pretty much cancels out how bizarre it is to take her to the potty. She’s been a tough little cookie and she’s a wild-thing-on-wheels in her wheelchair. Her favorite place to go in her chair is the library. We have a beautiful library with loads of sidewalk! Perfect. She went for a little roller-derby/bird-watching recently.

A broken leg can’t wipe the smile off her face for long.

This takes my breathe away. Her face here fills me up with happy.

A bird has been spotted! Such excitement.

Best big sister on the planet, seriously. This girl puts up with so much. She even volunteered to share sofa-sleeping duties during the first two weeks when Natty had to sleep in a very specific position. Now that Natty is back in bed, Claudia wakes right up to come get me when Natty cries in the night.
