newborn sessions just make me happy. the sweet newness is softening. it’s a privilege to look in from the outside as parents are gently learning about their brand -new wee one. i took a little drive across the valley to photograph baby emily on saturday, while she’s still tiny and new.
meet brand-new baby emily.

so happy and content in mommy’s arms and close to mommy’s voice.
the thing is, they don’t even know how cute it is when they cry.
a picture of true love and comfort.

it’s all in the details. i love her newborn skin.

mocha and pancakes

that’s what my youngest son had been requesting for his 7th birthday for nearly a year. so, that’s exactly what he got. not just any old mocha and pancakes though, Liberty Market blueberry pancakes and mocha…top notch.

seriously, i’ve honestly never tasted a pancake so good. i only had one bite, but i made it count.

despite the fact that i’ve recently posted this shot, i couldn’t leave it out of the big picture. talk about “good to the last drop”.
my beauty with her cortadito. she’s growing up at lightening speed.
i think anyone who knows me would believe that i finished all six rounds but i didn’t…only two shots were mine. my bigs actually finished in record time.
looks like it’s kicking in.
behold the dark master. i couldn’t love this more. the goofy grin, the lashes, PLUS his first and second freckles are very prevalent.
having three siblings has it’s advantages for sure. like a giant plate of amazing buttermilk pancakes for one.
digging in with fierce determination.
when you’re two and this cute, a full cup of chocolate milk is perfectly acceptable from time to time.
she spotted the bakery case. and it’s sent her into a fit of joy.
but which one?

and ana and her hermana, liz…who needs enemies when you’ve got sisters like this?

weekend recap

i had loads of photography fun last weekend. here’s a quick recap of a few of the shoots.
the smith family was an absolute joy and creative inspiration to photograph.

little mr. cutie-pants, jake, was such a brave little guy. he’d burned himself, pretty badly just before our shoot but he managed to stick it out long enough to get some cute shots. what a tough-guy.

the mata crew was up for pretty much anything and a total blast…not to mention good for plenty of laughs.

…and then there’s me. and yep, i AM barefoot at heart. not only do i prefer barefeet most of the time, but i’m totally behind TOM’S shoes and their goal to get shoes on kids that don’t have any.

this is the fastest sneak-peek i’ve ever posted. less than an hour after the shoot ended! i had to do it. had to. why wait, right? i’m so head-0ver-heels for this shot. it’s a sneaky little shot i took of baby cohen loving his swing-set time.

the WHOLE griffin family

that’s a whole lotta griffs and where there are a lotta griffs, there are a whole ton of laughs. this was no doubt, the funniest shoot i’ve ever done. this family is just plain awesome. i love ‘em. i know a couple of them well, and would love to know all of them well. simply, a wonderful group of people living through “it”, it being life and all it dishes out and giving each other a leg up, a pat on the back, a shoulder to cry on or punch in the nose (whatever it takes).

sue’s just got it goin’ on and that’s that.
and she’s got herself quite an ensemble of guys. i love how max is sort of enamored with his uncle josh.
i love doing the foot/leg shot and like to change it up a little each time. i like this. i like the perspective and love their hands.
the griff family is getting bigger and bigger. i can only imagine what it’s like for sue and grizz to see the family they’ve made come full circle in this way. i would guess that pride is an overwhelming feeling for them.
loooooove this love this love this! the birds are cool, the reactions are perfection.
all i can say is, i hope you can glean a fraction of the funny that went down for this shot.

i’ve been so excited to post a few shots from this session. while it was such a pleasure to spend a sunday evening with this beautiful family for many reasons, i have to admit, a big reason for my excitement…chickens. goofy, i know. photographing a precious little girl with the chickens that she dearly loves, excites me.
